Art Show at Sevigny Studio PDX
Featuring Original Works by Tashi, Local Ceramic Artist
Opening Reception: First Friday, December 5 · 6–9 PM
With Live Music by DJ Ayatollah & Light Refreshments
Sevigny Studio PDX is proud to present Between Earth and Eye, a solo exhibition of new ceramic works by Tashi, a Portland-based artist whose practice explores the connection between what is felt and what is seen.
This collection invites viewers to consider the space between the grounded and the imaginative — between the tactile weight of clay and the expressive energy that emerges through form, glaze, and color. Each piece holds a quiet tension: softness and edge, simplicity and boldness, function and play.
Through contrast and intention, Tashi explores how clay can hold both stillness and curiosity — how something shaped by the earth can also speak to perception, intuition, and connection. The work encourages touch and contemplation, asking the viewer to move between the physical and the perceptual, the everyday and the mysterious.
About the Artist
“I’m Tashi, a ceramic artist working out of Afterglow, my community pottery studio. Clay has become the language through which I slow down, connect, and explore the quiet beauty of form and texture. I make functional pieces – vases, cups, mugs, bowls, and sculptural vessels – that invite both everyday use and simple moments of appreciation.”
Tashi’s work begins with clean, rounded shapes and evolves through playful experimentation with color, surface, and glaze. Drawn to contrast – matte beside gloss, soft neutrals against deep tones, simplicity next to a touch of whimsy – each piece feels both grounded and alive, a reflection of the hands that shaped it and the unpredictable transformations that happen in the kiln.
Community is central to Tashi’s practice. Working alongside other potters at Afterglow fuels curiosity and collaboration, while teaching and sharing the process deepens a sense of connection through clay. “I believe clay holds an energy that connects people with one another, the earth, and to themselves. I hope that energy comes through in my work.”

The Collection
Between Earth and Eye features both functional and sculptural ceramics — vessels, mugs, vases, and bowls that play with perception, balance, and surface. Many pieces incorporate painted elements, including the recurring motif of the eye — often three — referencing intuition and the spiritual act of seeing beyond the visible.
