What happens when you let your imagination run wild and combine two completely different animals into one unexpected creature? Find out with What If Creations, a playful and imaginative exhibition by Portland-based artist Jessie Fox, returning to Sevigny Studio PDX this November.

Through detailed ballpoint pen illustrations, clever wordplay, and delightfully unexpected animal combinations, Jessie transforms the familiar into something wonderfully surprising. Whether you're an animal lover, an art enthusiast, or simply someone who enjoys a good laugh, these imaginative creations invite you to look closer, think differently, and discover the fun in the unexpected.
Join us for First Friday to explore Jessie's whimsical world, meet the artist, and experience the creativity behind these one-of-a-kind creatures.
What If Animals Were Something Else Entirely?
Jessie's hybrid animal illustrations begin with a simple question: what if? By bringing together the features and personalities of different animals, she creates curious combinations that are as clever as they are charming. Each creature has its own personality, brought to life through intricate hand-drawn details and witty names that make the concept even more fun.
The result is an imaginative collection that rewards a closer look. From the unexpected pairings to the playful wordplay, every piece offers something new to discover—and perhaps a new favorite animal you never knew existed.
The Art of Imagination and Detail
Behind the humor and whimsical concepts is a thoughtful, hands-on drawing practice. Jessie uses ballpoint pen to create detailed illustrations, building each hybrid creature through careful lines, textures, and distinctive features.
Her work brings together observation, creativity, and a keen sense of humor. The animals may be fantastical, but their familiar features give each creation a sense of personality and make the combinations all the more delightful.
It's art that encourages curiosity, invites conversation, and reminds us that creativity often begins with asking a different question.

Meet the Artist: Jessie Fox
Jessie Fox founded Whatif Creations in 2013, developing a distinctive artistic world inspired by her love of animals and the joy of making people smile. Her creative journey began while working as a counselor for troubled teens, where she used art as a way to connect with others. Over time, her sketches of unusual and humorous hybrid creatures grew into a creative venture of their own.
Today, Jessie's work can be found in galleries and gift shops around the country, and she has been a familiar presence at Portland Saturday Market for more than a decade. Through Whatif Creations, she continues to bring together detailed illustration, imaginative storytelling, and humor in artwork that appeals to curious minds of all ages.
