Join us for a special evening celebrating “Between Sea and Air,” a new body of work by ceramic artist Hana Rucker of Whip Ceramics, presented at our June First Friday Art Opening at Sevigny Studio PDX.
This featured exhibit explores oceanic-inspired sculptural ceramics, showcasing a collection of one-of-a-kind, hand-built vessels created locally for the show. The work moves between fluidity and structure—drawing from coastal forms, tidal movement, and natural erosion.
Hana’s pieces feature complex layered glazes, dynamic shapes, and richly textured surfaces, often incorporating unexpected material elements such as driftwood and metal. These additions extend the work beyond traditional ceramics, creating sculptural objects that feel both elemental and contemporary.
Her practice transforms clay into expressive, immersive forms, where material, environment, and gesture intersect. The result is a body of work that feels at once grounded in the earth and suspended in motion, inviting viewers into a sensory landscape shaped by sea, air, and time.
Meet the Artist: Hana Rucker
Hana Rucker is a ceramic artist whose work draws inspiration from the natural world and her deep love of gardening. She creates richly detailed, tactile pieces that blend function and storytelling through a bold, organic visual language.
A mother, restaurant owner, and educator, Hana brings a multidisciplinary perspective to her practice, with experience spanning handbuilding, wheel throwing, welding, and mixed media. Her ceramics reflect a celebration of abundance, craftsmanship, and the beauty of handmade objects.
